DOUBLE IMAGE MIRRORS: BRAZIL AND THE UNITED STATES IN ABRAHAM LINCOLN AND ALEIJADINHO
Abstract
Taking into account studies on Érico Veríssimo and Vianna Moog, this paper analyzes, in a first moment, the symbolic formation of Abraham Lincoln (former president of the United Status) and Aleijadinho (Brazilian sculptor of the 18th century) in relation to the North-American and Brazilian cultural formation, respectively. In a second moment, the analysis evolves according to the inversion of the images of the two heroes in relation to their countries, hence Lincoln is analyzed as if Brazilian and Aleijadinho, as if North-American.
Key Words: Lincoln, Aleijadinho, Brazil, United States.
